AC Bridge

How Claude notifications work on desktop, mobile, the web and in Claude Code

Last updated · Checked against Anthropic's docs and help centre on

The short answer Anthropic documents notifications for work that carries on without you. The desktop app alerts you about Code sessions and project threads, the phone app gets pushes from Remote Control, Dispatch and Cowork in the cloud, and Claude in Chrome alerts you when a task ends or needs permission. No setting for a chat reply is documented, and that is not proof it is missing.

Or let a light show it

The light is for Claude Code and Codex, not chat. It shows the state of an agent on a lamp you can see from across the room, so a long run does not need a sound or a toast.

What it does

AC Bridge turns the smart lights and plugs you already own (Hue, LIFX, Govee, WiZ, Home Assistant and more) into a status light. In the example colours from our homepage, the lamp breathes blue while the agent works, flashes red when it needs permission and turns green when it has finished; you pick the colours.

What it costs

One plan: a 7-day free trial with no card needed, then £2.99 a month if you add a card to keep going. Cancel any time from your account. It works with the Claude Code or Codex you already run, on Windows, macOS or Linux, and there is no API key to buy.

What it collects

LAN devices are driven straight from your machine and their keys never leave it; your account, settings, device list, usage counts and session states sync through our servers. Your prompts, code and session transcripts are never collected. Privacy policy.

What it follows

  • Claude Code in a terminal.
  • Claude Code in the VS Code panel.
  • Local sessions in the desktop app's Code tab.

The hooks come with its plugin, so there is nothing to wire by hand.

What it does not follow

  • Chat on claude.ai, in the desktop Chat tab or in the phone app.
  • Cowork and cloud sessions.
  • Desktop sessions running in the Windows Subsystem for Linux, because plugins are unavailable there.
  • An SSH session, unless the hub runs on that host.

See the status light guide and the setup docs.

Want to be notified when Claude responds?

For a chat reply, nothing is confirmed either way. Here is what was checked and what to do.

Claude app notifications for chat: not confirmed

No setting for a chat reply is documented for claude.ai, the desktop Chat tab or the phone app. That is not proof the setting is missing: Anthropic's own settings page needs a sign-in, so it could not be read.

Your own Settings page has the last word. Open it in the app you use and look for a notifications entry.

What the check covered

On 31 October 2026: 366 help-centre articles, 281 claude.com docs pages and 228 Claude Code docs pages. Every notification they describe is in the other cards on this page.

If you only need your browser to tell you, its own site settings can allow notifications per site: Chrome's notification settings.

Claude desktop notifications

The desktop app sends an operating system notification for three kinds of work. Your system settings decide whether it is shown.

The Code tab

You get a notification when a session finishes and you are not viewing it. A session in a project gets the project's notifications instead. Desktop docs.

Projects

A project notifies you when Claude posts in the project conversation, when a thread hits an error and when a thread needs your input. The sidebar menu's Notifications item adds one for each finished turn. Projects docs.

Scheduled tasks

A run missed within seven days gets one catch-up run, and the desktop app shows a notification. The release notes also name a Scheduled task failed alert. Scheduled tasks docs and the Cowork release notes.

In a browser

Project notifications are desktop-only. In a browser, look for the dot on the Overview button.

Allow them in your system

On a Mac, the permission prompt appears at the first notification. To change it later, use Apple's notification settings or, on Windows, Microsoft's notification settings.

Claude mobile notifications

The phone app gets a push from three features, and Remote Control is the one you set up yourself.

  1. Install the app

Install the Claude app on your phone and sign in with the same account and organisation you use for Claude Code.

  2. Allow notifications

Allow the app's notifications when your phone asks.

  3. Open the config

    In Claude Code, run /config.

  4. Switch the pushes on

Enable Push when Claude decides, Push when actions required, or both.

Remote Control: who can use it

It needs a Pro, Max, Ultra, Team or Enterprise plan, and API keys are not supported. On Team and Enterprise an Owner must switch it on. It cannot reach you from Amazon Bedrock, Claude Platform on AWS, Google Cloud's Agent Platform or Microsoft Foundry. Remote Control docs and the tools reference.

Claude decides when to push, and you can ask in a prompt, for example notify me when the tests finish. There is no per-event setting beyond the two toggles.

Dispatch and Cowork in the cloud

Dispatch pushes when a task is done or needs your go-ahead. It is in limited beta on some Pro, Max or Ultra plans, not open to new users, and needs the desktop and phone apps. Your computer must be awake and the desktop app open while Claude works. A Code session it starts pushes on finish or approval. Dispatch help.

Cowork in the cloud notifies your phone when a task ends or Claude needs input. Cowork help.

Claude notification when done

Which alert you get when work finishes depends on where it ran.

Where it ran What alerts you What it needs
Desktop Code tab An operating system notification when the session finishes You are not viewing the session
Desktop project A notification for a post, an error or a thread that needs you The project's notifications
Remote Control A phone push A push toggle in /config
Dispatch and Cowork in the cloud A phone push when a task ends or needs input Dispatch: the desktop and phone apps. Cowork: the phone app signed in
Cloud tasks A notification (the help article does not say which channel) Cloud tasks help
Claude in Chrome An alert when Claude needs permission or completes a task Chrome extension help

In a terminal Claude Code in a terminal has its own alerts and hooks. See Claude Code notifications.

Claude notifications not working

Most missing alerts come from one of a few causes. Check them in this order.

Desktop

  • You are looking at the session in the Code tab, so there is nothing to alert you about.
  • Your system settings block the app: allow Claude in the notification settings.

Phone push

  • In /config, No mobile registered means: open the phone app to refresh its push token.
  • An iPhone Focus mode or notification summary can suppress or delay pushes.
  • On Android, battery optimisation can hold them back: exempt the Claude app.
  • Claude Code skips the push while you are typing in or focused on the connected terminal.

Still nothing

  • Check that a push toggle in /config is on.
  • Check that the phone uses the same account and organisation.
  • Check the plan, because an API key or a Bedrock, AWS, Google Cloud or Foundry host cannot reach you.

Chat replies

No chat setting is confirmed, so none can be checked here. See the check on chat replies.

Turn off Claude notifications

There is no single switch. Turn off the place that sends the alert.

Desktop

Turn off the Notifications item in the project's sidebar menu, or block the app in your system's notification settings.

Phone

Switch both toggles in /config off. Or use Settings, Notifications, Claude, Allow Notifications on an iPhone, or Settings, Notifications, App notifications on Android.

Terminal

Set preferredNotifChannel to notifications_disabled. The /config row is Local notifications. With auto, Claude Code sends desktop notifications in iTerm2, Ghostty and Kitty, and terminal_bell rings the bell. Settings reference.

~/.claude/settings.json

{
  "preferredNotifChannel": "notifications_disabled"
}

Quiet only at the machine

Set CLAUDE_CLIENT_PRESENCE_FILE and phone pushes are skipped while that marker file exists. Environment variables.

Claude in Chrome gives no steps to turn its alerts off.
